Year 1 - Autumn 1 Curriculum: Your an Explorer

Maths: Children will be using -, + and = to work out problems to 20. They will learn how to split 2-digit numbers into tens and ones and also be exploring the properties of 2D and 3D shapes. Geography/History: The children will continue to learn about our local area and looking at maps. In history, the children will be learning about what life was like in the past compared to life now. The children will be required to talk to the older members of your family. English: We are reading ‘Nibbles’ by Emma Yarlett. The children will learn how to join two words using ‘and’, use simple description, put events in order and use past tense to create a diary. We will also look at traditional tales this half term, as an enrichment activity the children will have ‘A Tiger Who Came To Tea tea-party.’ Science: This half term the children will be learning about different parts of the body, our 5 senses and which body part they are associated with. R.E.: Children will be learning about why Christians celebrate Christmas and explore other festivals and how they are celebrated. P.H.S.E.: Our topic this term is, ‘It’s my body.’ Children will learn how to look after themselves and to choose what happens to their body. Computing: The children will be learning about algorithms and will learn how to give instructions to direct each other and ‘bee bots.’ Art/D.T.: The children will be practising a variety of techniques such as drawing, painting, collage and use of ICT. In D.T. children will be looking structures and will be designing, creating and testing cages to stop Nibbles from eating everything. P.E.: The children will continue with gymnastics and will use equipment to practise a variety of movement, balance and travel.
