Year 6 at a Glance

Good communication is an essential part of your child’s happiness and progress in Year 6. If you have any queries or worries, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are normally on the playground in the morning and at home time and we welcome any feedback from parents. Alternatively, you can make an appointment to speak to us via the main junior office.

Year 6 Staff are: Mr Backstrom (6B), Ms Millican (6M), Miss Lawrence (classroom assistant), Mr Lawrenson (classroom assistant).

We have PE on: Monday afternoon

We have swimming on: Wednesday morning (6B Autumn 1; 6M Autumn 2)

We have Spanish on: Thursday

Our PE kit is: A white T-shirt, black shorts and a pair of pumps. Trainers are also allowed for outdoor sports. We have a ‘no jewellery’ policy in the school and all pierced earrings will need to be removed. Please make sure that P.E. kits are in a bag and all items are clearly named.

Swimming Kit: Boys must wear a pair of swimming trunks (not loose, baggy shorts) and girls must wear a one-piece swimming costume (not a bikini). All children must have a swimming cap and a towel. Goggles are optional.

Home Reading: Electronic reading books will be set weekly or fortnightly on the Active Learn website. These are wonderful interactive books with built-in activities about the text. Just log on, read the book and click on the bugs to answer the questions. Do not hesitate to contact Y6 teachers if you require any additional reading books.

Homework: Spellings will be sent home weekly. We set regular English and Maths homework on our Active Learn Website. If you have lost your login details, please see staff.
