Fairtrade Successes

Here are some of the things we have been doing… and winning …

Did someone say £1000 and a ‘Gastronaut live’ show?

Yes that’s right! … St Michael in the Hamlet successfully won £1000 for the school to spend on resources and a LIVE Gastronaut show by TV presenter Stefan Gates!

There was a national competition set up to create a collage about South African Fruit. So in true SMITH style, the fairtrade committee turned it into a whole school community project…

We asked our families a to make fruit collages       ….

We assigned one specific fruit from South Africa to each class in KS1. Their job was to decorate lots of fruit images using different media and resources      …

Finally the Fairtrade Committee put it all together to make one big collage!    …

That special team effort was how we won 1st place!

So a few moths later, in the Spring Term of 2017, our school received a high energy, interactive food and science spectacle from BBC’s Stefan Gates, to learn about South African food and culture. It w

as amazing and children were blown away with the experiments and investigations.

Photographs and further details are published here in our previous school newspaper. Please click the image below to see what The Echo have published about our competition success. It was also in print on 13th June 2017. What a great achievement for us! Well done everyone! 😊
