Governors Learning Walk- Spring 2015
Our Governing body all took a Learning Walk around our school. The Governing body oversee the strategic operation of the school so it is important that they have a clear, first hand understanding of how school works and how children are learning, and see the progress the children make from Nursery to Year 6.
At the end of the walk the Governors chat with the Head and The Deputy about what they have seen and can raise any questions and discuss how well the school is doing particularly in working towards the areas we have outlined in our annual school development plan.
This half term the Learning Walk focused on ‘Reading’ and ‘The Learning environment’. Here are some of the Governors’ comments.
‘The school felt happy and had a calm atmosphere. Children were at ease and confident and relaxed both playing and when they spoke with us’
‘The reading focus is omnipresent, including outside the offices… sofas and homely areas in Nursery and Reception increase focus on reading for pleasure.’
‘Very warm, welcoming, calm yet engaging environment with pupils fully engaged in classroom sessions.’
‘Great to see the Rights of the Child being embedded into the curriculum.’
‘A school of happy and contented children with great displays and children keen to show you what they are doing.’
The Leadership Team asked the Governors’ to reflect on any areas where they felt we could continue to develop. The highlighted some maintenance work which can be carried out in the Summer break and to share the work we are doing with our sensory room in the Rainbow base. We are also looking at utilising other spaces in the school to maximise the provision we can offer.
