The Hive – Autumn Curriculum Topic

The Hive - Autumn 1 Curriculum Topic: The Hive trip down Route 66 ! Science: We will investigate living things and their habitats. Using our Route 66 topic, we will study native American animals then Owls to follow our English. History: We will be focussing on chronological understanding and a study of Martin Luther King. Geography: We will learn about the 7 continents and 5 oceans. Later in the term we will look at the American states and key features of a town or city. PHSEE and RE: We will think about our sensory needs and how to act upon them. During RE we will ask ourselves if actions speak louder than words. English: We will be studying 2 books this term. Firstly, Troll Swap by Leigh Hodgkinson. This book will encourage the children to create their own characters and then write a story in which they change places. Following this, we will read The owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark by Jill Tomlinson, focussing on non-chronological reports. Maths: We will begin by revisiting number place value, ensuring the children have a solid base to move on from. This term we will look at addition and subtraction methods and geometry. Art: Each week we will look at a different artist and technique. We are focussing on American artists such as Keith Haring and Roy Lichtenstein. Music: This term, we will be responding to different types of music and discussing how it makes us feel. Computing: Our main focus for this half term is internet safety, word processing and sending emails. PE: We will be using music and dance in our PE lessons this term, learning to dance skills and making a sequence.
